Ed Poe Insurance Agency shared that they are all set to light the "Community Christmas Tree" for the annual WinterFest events. The lighting is planned to follow the Connell Community Club's evening of Family Events at Sunset Theatre from 5 to 7 pm. on Thursday, December 5.
First planted in 1968, the tree has grown tall and wide filling in the gap next to Ed Poe Insurance Agency.
Along with a photo (above), published in the Franklin County Graphic, the writing stated " THE OLD SHELL GAME in reverse is illistrated by this beautiful Spruce standing nearby the Ed Poe Agency. Tuesday, there was vacant ground, Wednesday the evergreen, by which Poe stands. The tree was given by Oliver Dilling to the Connell Jaycees who moved it to the downtown location to serve as a community Christmas tree."
It has been sometime since the tree served this role, being revitalized in 2023 in its role as the "Community Christmas Tree."
Just this week, the tree was trimmed and lighted in anticipation of its grand reveal scheduled for Thursday night, December 5. Look for it to be officially lighted around 7pm.
